Paper Arts
I love working with paper. There are so many ways to play with it.
Collage
I find a lot of joy in making collages using my hand-patterned paper. I sometimes use photographs or magazine images, but usually, I create my own images from scraps of my paper.
Origami
Origami actually means “folding paper”. There are so many fun ways to use origami in your daily life. Whether you use traditional origami paper or make your own squares, origami leaves plenty of room for surface design.
Chigiri-e
Chigiri-e means ripped picture. It starts with a design to transfer to paper. The design is then transferred to the paper. The pieces are then ripped from the paper and glued down to a base paper to create lovely notecards.
Kirigami
Kiri;
Ki
Kirigami means figures cut from paper. The variety of ways you can cut paper is vast. From geometric to figurative, cutting paper has been an enjoyable part of my art practice. These figures sometimes are used as stencils, sometimes turned into hand-carved stamps and sometimes used as they are in art journals.
Paper Making
Papermaking is a great way to recycle bits and pieces left over from other projects. Naturally scrap paper is the main feature, but threads left over from sewing projects, tea leaves, and flowers all add beauty to handmade paper.
