Using Historical Images in Mixed Media

This class combines historical images and the creation of a mixed media piece that incorporates those images with a variety of art materials. The instructor brings tea-dyed paper and tea ink she made herself to help participants achieve a vintage look. The finished product will be suitable for framing.

MAKING JUNQUE JOURNALS

Junque Journals are a fun way to create a way to curate small memorabilia such as tickets to a play or movie, train tickets for a trip, report cards or certificates, fortunes, notes from friends and family or promotion papers for a start. In this class participants will make a junque journal of their own ready for their writings or memorabilia.

INTRODUCTION TO ART JOURNALING

Art journaling is a form of expression that combines text and images. Art journals can be as simple as magazine illustrations pasted into a notebook with notes to full-blown works of mixed media art. This class will introduce the participants to building layers of text and imagery to create a satisfying journaling experience. Methods of creating texture for layers will be explored.

MONO-PRINTING USING A GELLI PLATE — THE BASICS

Have you heard of gel plates? Are you intrigued with what you can do with one? Wonder no more. In Mono-printing using a gel plate - the basics, you will learn how to use a gel plate with confidence. We will create a number of different kinds of prints and practice layering to create more interesting compositions. The class will cover how to set up, use, and clean up after a printing session.

MAKING FASHION CUFFS WITH SCRAP FABRIC

Dig deep into your stash of fabric scraps and gather your hand-sewing tools. In this 90-minute class you will learn the dimensions and construction of fabric cuffs, and get to work on making one of your own.

DRAW AND STITCH LABYRINTHS

Walking labyrinths has been a source of peace and contemplation for people from many religious and philosophical backgrounds throughout history. Let your fingers do the walking in this class as we learn how to draw a number of labyrinths and stitch one for meditation on the go.

FUNCTIONAL AND FABULOUS EMBROIDERY FOR MENDING

You’ve learned how to mend your clothes and they look pretty good if you do say so yourself. In this class, we will go one step further - exploring ways to integrate those mends into an overall look. Learn how to blur the lines between the garment and the mending. We will explore the many ways we can combine basic embroidery stitches to achieve an elevated look.

EMBROIDER YOUR PERSONAL COMPASS ROSE — A MAP-MAKING CLASS FOR ADULTS

Take a little time to map out your guiding principles and stitch your personal compass rose. Your compass rose can be embroidered directly onto a piece of clothing or could be added to a garment or decor item. Whether you wear the compass rose close to your heart or place it in a space sure to catch your eye. Your personal compass rose will remind you of the path you most want to take.

FRENCH BULLION ROSES FOR DELICATE EMBROIDERY

French Bullion Roses elevate any article of clothing or home decor project. Long a popular staple for smocking, heirloom sewing and vintage baby clothes, the bullion rose can be given a more modern application as well. In this class we will make french knots and colonial knots and compare them. Then we will learn how to make the French Bullions and how to arrange them to create a number of roses.

Embroidery Intensive - Chain Stitch Family of Stitches

Having learned the texture and usefulness of the chain stitch, you can easily give it a power up with these variations. We will embroider the chain stitch, whipped chain stitch, reverse chain stitch, heavy chain stitch,, raised chain stitch, wheat stitch, and knotted chain stitch. We may even do a lazy daisy or two.
