Embroidery
I love embroidery for its own sake, but it really shines to add interest to mending. Embroidery is a great way to create pattern on fabric.
Embroidery has so many variations it is a never-ending source of learning. On some pieces, I like to use a single stitch pattern. On others, the variation of stitches makes for great visual impact.
So many stitches to choose from .
With so many stitches to choose from it is sometimes hard to choose which ones will be the most effective for a particular project. In the case on the left, different stitches are used to show the various textures of the flowers.
Each stitch has a character.
Alabama Chanin pioneered the art of applique on knits. I have found her books on the subject very helpful and inspiring. This type of stitching is great for many types of design. I enjoy this style quite a bit. It works well when I am mending a knit garment.
