Pumpkin Season

Two circles of candy corn look like a seasonal wreath.

The color orange seems to rule in October - pumpkins, candy corn, and leaves on the maple trees. Wherever I drive I see jack-o-lanterns. I love the sight of a stone fence topped with tiny pumpkins or a porch with a host of glowing pumpkin faces.

Our farmer’s markets have both ended for the season. Looking forward to the spring when they start up again.

I will be teaching a class “Origami Boxes” on November 17th, 6 - 8 pm at the Gypsy Rose Florist at 250 Main Street Oxford, MA. Folding these boxes is fun on its own, but as we are heading towards the gift-giving season, these boxes might serve a practical use for you.

The flavors of autumn are scrumptious - apples fresh from the tree, apple cider, pumpkin pie, and baked goods, and an easy treat my mother used to make. When I say easy, I mean easy, but the flavor is delicious. I will share it with you now.

Autumn trail mix

Take a bag of candy corn and a can of dry roasted, salted peanuts (Mr. Peanut was always our mascot) into a mixing bowl and combine thoroughly. That’s it.

The salt compliments the sweetness perfectly. Hope you will try it. If you do, let me know what you think.
